Shame. Fear. And Degradation.

Not Items on Anyone's Shopping List.

What do you feel when you stand in line to pay for your groceries? Impatience, fatigue, and perhaps frustration?  Maybe accomplished or grateful?

There are those who stand on the same line, with their own cart of needs, and experience crippling, damaging, painful sensations: Shame.  Fear.  Unworthiness. Exposure.  Humiliation.

For the people who’ve fallen on hard times, lost a job, have an ill family member, or whose family’s needs have suddenly grown beyond their current income, salt poured on this open wound is the humility and disgrace they experience when credit is declined, an account is closed, and local and caring grocers need to insist that the food must stay and they must go.

In 2004, when Shamshon Krausz, the founder and administrator of Eizer Lamuzen, witnessed a little boy leaving a store empty-handed, his dignity left behind in shreds, he decided to change the way we give.

Eizer Lamuzen was created to enable individuals to be aided privately and discreetly.  Through a unique concept, consumers sign up to become members and have a small $5 fee added to their regular shopping bill.  This money is used exclusively to help other consumers of this store, who experience decreased debt and are provided with the ability to continue to purchase food, meat, fish, and other necessary grocery items.

Eizer Lamuzen staffs a respected Vaad of Rabbanim who acts as an advisory board and oversees the distribution of funds, setting policy for the organization.  Eizer Lamuzen currently services the communities of Williamsburg, Boro Park, Kiryas Yoel and Montreal Canada, with many plans for expansion and growth throughout the United States.  Eizer Lamuzen’s core mission is to help families who are experiencing current difficulties and help them regain their stability and security, while preserving their dignity. Our goal is to ensure that when those in need set out to purchases necessities, they leave shame behind and stand in line with pride.

…Without Siyata Dishmaya, and without the help of so many valuable subscribers, we would never have achieved so much.  I’m so thankful to everyone who has contributed to our success….

From The People...

  • I used to be just like everyone else shopping in the store, following my list and filling up my cart. Until my husband lost his job. The first few months were manageable, but then the bills began to pile up and my local grocery let me know that I’d reached the credit limit. I was devastated. How would I feed my family? We’d been reduced from respected customers to beggars. It was humiliating. When Eizer Lamuzen began to slowly and mysteriously chip away at our debt, we received the greatest gift. I was able to return to the store, purchase what I needed, and once again feel just like everyone else.

  • As an Eizer Lamuzen member, I love knowing that I’m helping people who live in my community, local people who need assistance. My small weekly donation, in the long run, doesn’t impact my pocketbook, and it is such a convenient, easy way to give. I’m a proud Account 120 contributor!

  • I always prided myself on being able to support my family. I had a good job, solid profession, and respectable income. But my wife became ill and there were so many new expenses, from doctor visits and medicines to child care and housekeeping services. I was drowning. Food seemed to have become a luxury. Eizer Lamuzen’s assistance came in the nick of time, saving me from going under, and helped me nourish my family during this difficult time. We are forever grateful to Eizer Lamuzen’s and its kind-hearted supporters!

  • Many times when I write out a Tzedaka check, I wonder where the money goes. I understand that there are always operational expenses in any non-profit organization, but I appreciate that the majority of my weekly Eizer Lamazun contribution is given directly to the people in need. I am confident that Eizer Lamazun has spent the time determining who really needs the money and that my tzedakah is well spent. I’m glad to be a part of this wonderful organization.
